Lepetit & Ruggia head BLOC

by

In keeping with tradition, the new year once again sees a change at the top of BLOC, the Office representing a variety of film organisations in France, which joins together and safeguards independent operators in the French film industry.
The new faces at BLOC are the producer Jean-François Lepetit (Flach Film) from the Union of French Producers, and the director Christophe Ruggia (Les diables) who's representing the Association of Film Directors'. They are taking over from Alain Terzian (UPF) and Robert Guédiguian (SRF). These positions are particularly important, as 2004 is the year for the renewal of agreements between the French film industry and its main financier, namely the pay-TV channel Canal+. The coming months are also considered to be a particularly critical time for French independent productions that have small or medium sized budgets.

The members of BLOC currently include a variety of associations and guilds such as the French Producers’ Union (which has re-elected Alain Terzian as its director), the French film producers’ and exporters’ union (led by Jean-François Lepetit), the French independent film producers’ union (led by Marie Masmonteil) and French independent distributors’ association. The only group of people who aren't part of BLOC are the authors, directors and producers represented by ARP.
