FESTIVALS France

The art of editing

by

The 4th edition of the Industry of Dreams is ending tonight night in Montreuil. The event has been organised as a tribute to “the artists in the shadows who make cinema”. After looking at costumes in 2001 and soundtracks in 2002, this year’s festival concentrated on editing. The event has been organised by the city of Montreuil, the National Film Centre – CNC, the Regional l’Ile de France council and the general council of Seine-Saint-Denis.

The theme for this year was also further developed during four round table discussions: “Editors in documentary making: technicians or co-authors?”. “The Art of Editing”, “The Links Between Editors and Directors” and “The concept of Editing”. There was participation by a number of professionals from the sector, like Cécile Decugis (editor for Eric Rohmer, Jean-Luc Godard for All’ultimo respiro), Renée Lichtig (Jean Renoir’s editor), Henri Colpi (editor for Alain Resnais, Andreï Tarkovski), Yann Dedet (editor for Truffaut, Pialat, Kahn, Poirier). There were also some editor-director teams present like Noémie Lvosky-François Gédigier, Dominique Cabrera-Sophie Brunet, Catherine Breillat-Pascale Chavance, while Lucas Belvaux attended with the three editors of his trilogy, (Valérie Loiseleux, Ludo Troch, Danielle Anezin).
