Showcase for French Films

The 12th edition of the French Film Festival is currently taking place in seven venues across the UK, with special appearances of top French directors and talent like Alain Corneau, Jean Becker, Thierry Lhermitte and Vincent Perez.

The event supervised by Edinburgh-based Richard Mowe, is organised with the support of the French Institutes in Edinburgh, London, the Alliance Française in Glasgow and Manchester, Scottish Screen , Europa Cinemas and the French Embassy in London.
The three weeks event is taking place until November 30, and it is a unique opportunity for French film lovers across the UK to view over 30 French classics, recent feature films and documentaries, with some introductions given by the film’s director and/or cast. For instance, the star actor, Thierry Lhermitte will present Effroyables jardins (“Strange Gardens”) alongside the film’s director, Jean Becker and the producer, Louis Becker, at the Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA), the Glasgow Film Theatre and the Edinburgh Filmhouse. Jean Veber, the director of the international hit Le placard will present his new film, The Pharmacist in Edinburgh and Glasgow; the international heart-throb, Vincent Perez, will introduce his first feature film as a director, Once Upon an Angel [+see also:

, and Thomas Chabrol, Claude Chabrol’s son, will talk about his film Flower Of Evil in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

As part of a complete retrospective dedicated to his work, the director Alain Corneau will also be in London, Glasgow and Edinburgh to present his latest film, Fear and Trembling [+see also:

, and he will be appearing on a panel with Scottish writer, Bernard McLaverty, to discuss literary adaptations in the cinema.
