Writer-director Christian Zübert’s Exterritorial is now in post-production. The new feature, labelled by Netflix as “a gripping action-thriller about a conspiracy, diplomatic entanglement and a missing child”, wrapped filming at the end of 2023.

Zübert’s latest works include the TV series Bad Banks (2020) and Arthurs Gesetz (2018) as well as the features Lommbock (2017) and One Breath [+see also:

The story of Exterritorial opens with the son of former Special Forces soldier Sara (played by Jeanne Goursaud, seen recently in the series Barbarians and The Chemistry of Death) disappearing without a trace while on a visit to the US consulate in Frankfurt. Stranger still, nobody seems to remember him ever being in the building. Sara is asked to leave the consulate, but she knows that the German authorities have no access to the interior. If she leaves now, she might never get back in. Sara moves deeper into the labyrinthine consulate, desperately searching for her son, unaware of the dangerous intrigue gradually tightening a noose around her throat.

Alongside Goursaud are Dougray Scott (Mission: Impossible II) in his first German-speaking role, starring as chief of security Erik Kynch, and Lera Abova (Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin) portraying Irina, the daughter of a Russian oligarch.

Exterritorial is being produced by Kerstin Schmidbauer with Verena Vogl, Franziska Suppee and Götz Marx for Germany’s Constantin Television GmbH. Oliver Barben is serving as the executive producer.

The release date is yet to be confirmed.
