, took home only one trophy, for Best Supporting Actress (Ioana Flora).

One of the most surprising and simultaneously liberating moments of the gala, hosted by the National Theatre in Bucharest, came when actress Viorica Vodă (known especially for Nae Caranfil’s 2002 superhit Philanthropy) talked on stage about the long years of counselling she needed after suffering sexual abuse during her career. Although she did not name the abusers, her confession may rekindle the rather dormant local #MeToo movement, which hasn’t yet resulted in any filmmaker being officially investigated for sexual abuse.
