Running from 28-31 March 2022, CPH:FORUM, the international financing and co-production event for creative documentaries, which is part of the leading Nordic documentary festival CPH:DOX, has announced the 30 international projects that have been selected for this year's edition, plus another six Nordic works in progress that will be presented in the CPH:WIP section. After two years of unspooling online, CPH:DOX is preparing to welcome hundreds of guests to Copenhagen from 23 March-3 April, and the industry events will take place both physically and online.

Women take centre stage in the line-up, both behind and in front of the camera, and among the selected projects are the new works by Jialing Zhang (One Child Nation), Ilinca Calugareanu (Chuck Norris vs Communism [+see also:

), Tova Mozard (Psychic), Elizabeth Lo (Stray) and Lana Wilson (Miss Americana), among others. The topics explored among the projects include some of the major issues affecting the world we live in, such as race, equality and the legacy of colonialism, which collide in a personal film by award-winning Barbadian filmmaker Jason Fitzroy Jeffers (Papa Machete). Then there is the newest project by Dutch visual artist Renzo Martens (White Cube [+see also:

), while new perspectives on the climate emergency are presented in a large-scale investigation by Academy Award-nominated filmmakers Tia Lessin (The Janes) and Carl Deal (Trouble the Water) as well as in an intimate observation by Nathan Grossman (I Am Greta [+see also:

).

The 30 projects will be presented in five categories: FICTIONONFICTION (challenging works in the hybrid landscape between fiction and non-fiction), CINEMA (high-end, theatrical, feature-length documentaries with international distribution potential), F:ACT (projects bridging the fields of filmmaking, investigative journalism and activism), ART (film projects by visual artists to be screened both within the institution of cinema and within that of visual art) and SCIENCE (creative documentary film and new-media projects on science and technology).

As for the six Nordic work-in-progress projects selected for CPH:WIP, which will be presented on 28 March, they include the new works by established filmmakers such as Tonje Hessen Schei, Carl Olsson and Christian Sønderby Jepsen, as well as emerging Nordic talents.

Tereza Simikova, head of CPH:FORUM, stated: “The pandemic has deeply affected curation across the platforms, and has further narrowed down the range of films and topics that are considered feasible to be made. It is our ongoing mission to nurture a space for originality and creativity, while making sure the projects we expose can indeed find their audiences.”

The selected projects will be presented to more than 200 established film financiers, representatives of streaming platforms, broadcasters, film studios, and philanthropic foundations. It should be underlined that for the ninth year running, CPH:FORUM is presenting the Eurimages Co-Production Development Award, worth €20,000, to the event’s best-pitched project intended for co-production.
