, will commence filming on 21 March on location in Pedro de Valdivia, in Chile’s Atacama Desert. The Danish helmer is best known for titles such as Italian for Beginners (2000), An Education [+see also:

) and newcomer Sara Becker. In The Movie Teller, Brühl will play Nansen, a European outsider who, thanks to his restraint and diplomacy, earns the respect of the families he encounters at a Chilean mine before embarking on a relationship with a local woman, María Magnolia (portrayed by Bejo). In particular, Nansen becomes a second father to María’s daughter (Becker), whose unusual gift for storytelling leads her to become the poverty-stricken town’s resident “movie teller”. With the local families unable to afford cinema tickets, the town bands together to raise enough money to send María’s daughter to the movie theatre alone so that she can recount to them the stories she has seen on screen upon her return, transporting them to the cinema as she brings the tales to life.

An adaptation of Hernán Rivera Letelier’s autobiographical novel of the same name, the project’s technical crew includes DoP Daniel Aranyó (Spider-Man: Far from Home, the TV series Into the Badlands), production designer Carlos Conti (The Motorcycle Diaries [+see also:

The Movie Teller is being produced by Adolfo Blanco for Spain’s A Contracorriente Films, Vincent Juillerat for France’s Selenium Films and Andres Mardones for Chile’s Al Tiro Films. London-based Embankment Films is executive-producing the picture and is in charge of its world sales, co-repping Latin American rights with Latido Films. The official release date is yet to be disclosed.
