Continuing its series of successful past editions, Feature Launch, the MIDPOINT Institute's programme dedicated to supporting writers, directors, producers and aspiring script consultants, is ready to welcome its 2022 participants. As every year, the programme is scouting up-and-coming talents who are developing their first or second feature films, with a particular focus on the region of Central and Eastern Europe.

A total of nine projects, along with three script-consultant trainees, will be selected to go through an intensive four-module programme, spanning more than a year, and if everything goes as planned, it will consist of two residential and two online workshops, a project showcase, and a follow-up session. During Feature Launch, participants will be able to work closely on script and project development, and they will be provided with financing, networking and co-production opportunities as they get the chance to create and discuss funding, pitching, marketing and distribution strategies, while producers also acquire company development training.

According to the plan, the first residential workshop will run in March 2022 in Slovakia, with the first online workshop to follow in May, while the Feature Launch project showcase will happen in the context of the upcoming Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The final online workshop will run next November, and in January 2023, a follow-up session will be organised in Trieste during the When East Meets West for Company Time, an EAVE on-demand workshop focused on the enhancement of entrepreneurial skills.

Some of the previous participants have been sharing their thoughts on their experience of the programme. Writer-director Šimon Holý explained: “MIDPOINT Feature Launch helped our team have a clearer vision of what our movie is and what it should be,” while writer Greer Ellison added: “It’s an all-encompassing script and project development experience. It’s focused, detailed and full of energy.” Finally, writer-director Pauls Ķesteris underlined: “We came here with characters and a plot; we came out with a story.”

The deadline for applications is 1 November 2021. For more information, please click here.
