The 11th edition of Docu Rough Cut Boutique, Sarajevo Film Festival’s and Balkan Documentary Center’s platform for projects in advanced stages of editing, announced its prizes. The jury comprised Laurien Ten Houten, Hanka Kastelicová, Catherine Le Clef, Eugen Kelemen, Ulrike Schmidt, and Margje de Koning.

The Avanpost Media Award, which provides the winner with post-production services from the Bucharest-based company worth €20,000, went to Cent’anni by debutant Slovenian filmmaker Maja Doroteja Prelog. The film focuses on a filmmaker who follows her partner, a leukaemia survivor on his Giro d’Italia to move forward in life after experiencing trauma, but realises she is trying to get back to something that no longer exists. It is produced by Rok Biček for Slovenia’s Cvinger Film, in co-production with Agresywna Banda (Poland) and Zena Films (Italy).

The CAT&Docs Award, worth €2,000, went to Serbian director Nemanja Vojinović’s sophomore feature-length documentary Bottlemen [+see also:

which is a documentary-western following the last days of a community of plastic bottle collectors, on the biggest Balkan landfill, once an archaeological site of the European Neolithic. The project, which is a Serbian-Slovenian co-production staged by Marija Stojnić (Set Sail Films) with RT Dobre Nade and Slovenia’s Urgh!, also snagged the IDFA Spotlight Award, and it will therefore be fully invited to be presented at IDFA 2021. The DOK Leipzig Preview Accelerator Prize went to the aforementioned Cent’anni.

The HBO Europe Award, also valued at €2,000, went to the Bulgarian documentary No Place for You in Our Town [+see also:

by Nikolay Stefanov (Shears), that tries to investigate what hides underneath the violent facade of a local gang from a decaying ex-mining town. The documentary is being produced by Ralitsa Golemanova for Smarty Pants Shooter, and Lightdox is handling the sales. The film has also snagged the Movies that Matter Award and it will participate in the Movies that Matter Industry days: Take on Impact.
