Venice announces its Competition, Orizzonti and Debut Film juries

- Chloé Zhao, Saverio Costanzo and Virginie Efira, among others, will join Bong Joon-ho, while Jasmila Žbanić will chair the Orizzonti jury and Uberto Pasolini will preside over the Debut Film jury

The 78th Venice International Film Festival (1-11 September) has announced the international juries for the Venezia 78 Competition, the Orizzonti section and the “Luigi De Laurentiis” Venice Award for a Debut Film.

As already announced, the Competition jury president (read news) is writer-director Bong Joon-ho, author of milestones in Korean cinema such as Memories of Murder (2003), The Host (2006) and Mother (2009). He won definitive international consecration in 2019 for Parasite, winner of a long series of prestigious acknowledgments including the Palme d'Or at Cannes, a Golden Globe, a Critics Choice Award, two BAFTA and four Oscars.

In order to join him at the jury, the festival selected Italian writer-director Saverio Costanzo, who presented in Venice La solitudine dei numeri primi [+see also:

out of competition in Venice before being acclaimed by international critics and winning the European Film Award as Best Documentary, along with the LUX Audience Award; and US-Chinese writer-director Chloé Zhao, whose most recent film, Nomadland, premiered at the 2020 Venice Film Festival and was awarded the Golden Lion before earning the industry’s highest acclaim including Golden Globes , BAFTA, DGA, PGA Awards and three Oscars.
