God’s Creatures is currently being filmed in Ireland. The psychological drama is being helmed by US directors Anna Rose Holmer and Saela Davis, marking the directorial debut by the duo, who previously worked together as writers of the award-winning drama The Fits [+see also:

, directed by the former on her own, which was first unveiled as part of the Venice Biennale College selection in 2015 and then went on to be one of the sensations on the US independent circuit, receiving accolades such as the Someone to Watch Award at the 2016 Independent Spirit Awards.

God’s Creatures is set in a rainswept Irish fishing village, where a woman’s lies to protect her son have a devastating impact on the community, her family and herself. The script was penned by Shane Crowley (previously a co-writer of the short films by Scottish director Jonny Blair) and is based on a story he co-wrote with producer Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly (Lady Macbeth [+see also:

God’s Creatures is being produced by Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly for British-Irish outfit Sixty-Six Pictures. US firm A24 has boarded the film as the holder of its international rights and is co-financing the feature along with BBC Films, Screen Ireland and the WRAP Fund. The release date is yet to be disclosed.
