The 39th Bergamo Film Meeting will take place from April 24 to May 2, 2021, in the format allowed by the pandemic regulations and safety measures. The 2020 edition was firstly cancelled, then postponed to May, and finally cancelled again due to the health crisis.

Volker Schlöndorff, director, screenwriter, producer, actor and one of the most significant representatives of post-war German cinema, will be the protagonist of the retrospective - presented in national preview - of the Bergamo Film Meeting 2021 edition. A journey through 22 films outlines the filmography of a multifaceted and highly creative author, often inspired by literature (he often dabbled, in literary adaptations throughout the course of his career) and socio-political activism.

As usual, the Festival will feature the sections Competition - Exhibition and Close Up, respectively highlighting the latest trends and emerging authors in fiction and documentary cinema. Once again supported by the European Union through the MEDIA sub-program of Creative Europe, the Bergamo Film Meeting will maintain its focus on continental cinema, featuring more than 150 films throughout 9 days of screenings.

Simultaneously, thanks to the collaborations with several cultural institutions of the territory and beyond, the festival program will include special events focusing on visual arts, music and comics, meetings with authors and more. Also confirmed is the “Europe, Now!” section and Film Industry Meetings, the panel for film industry professionals established as a platform for networking and keeping up to date with the opportunities offered by festivals, markets, training programs, European and national funds. The complete schedule of the 39th edition will be announced mid-April.
