, which was also on the subject of city dwellers forging a (new) life in the countryside – is being helmed by a regular on the TV circuit, Jesús del Cerro, whose CV includes titles of the likes of Médico de familia, Compañeros and the aforementioned Un paso adelante, on which he worked alongside the two lead actors from this film. In addition, the Madrilenian director has shot movies in Romania (see the news) and the USA.

Principal photography took place over a period of five weeks, beginning on 18 November last year in various locations in Cantabria, and topped off with shoots in London and Madrid. The plot, written by José Luis Feito, tells of how Pedro (played by Muñoz), an unemployed architect staying with his uncle Luis (Puyol), a doctor who is similarly between jobs, hears the news about the passing of his granddad Paco, whom he never met but who was also an architect (albeit a successful one). Paco emigrated to Mexico and has now bequeathed the film’s titular animals to him. And so the two men set off on a journey to the north of Spain with the intention of selling said livestock, but the situations they get themselves into once there will force them to change their plans. This is because they both fall in love with the landscape they discover there, its atmosphere and its new inhabitants. In particular, Pedro will be besotted with Paula (Pimentel), a Mexican student and the granddaughter of his granddad’s best friend, who also set off to seek his fortune in Mexico. Thus, they will all get tangled up in a ludicrous situation caused by Jana (Mamen García), Paco’s ex-girlfriend, who is obsessed with the treasure that – rumour has it – he hid before his demise. During this journey, the movie’s protagonist not only discovers the connection that ties him to his late relative, but also an unexpected paradise that will change him completely and will enable him to give meaning to his life – far, far away from the city.

En otro lugar is an independent production by ATM Producciones.
