EXCLUSIVE: Trailer and poster for Love & Anarchy title Big vs Small
- Finnish documentarian Minna Dufton’s debut feature is set to premiere at the upcoming Helsinki International Film Festival – Love & Anarchy
Champion big-wave surfer Joana Andrade is the only Portuguese woman currently surfing big waves and is a specialist in the discipline, surfing at Praia do Norte, Nazaré, Portugal. She has been nominated as one of the top five female big-wave surfers (tow-in) in the world. Andrade also founded the first surf school for girls in Portugal and is a partner in the Progress Surf School in her home town of Ericeira, Portugal. Also, Johanna Nordblad, a pioneering champion free-diver who trains Andrade to face her fears under the ice, has broken both Finnish and world records in free-diving for two decades. She holds the world record for free-diving under ice for 50 metres without a wet suit. Nordblad can hold her breath under water for over six-and-a-half minutes.
The story of these two elite athletes is presented by Finnish award-winning journalist and television documentarian Minna Dufton in her debut feature-length documentary, Big vs Small [+see also:
film profile], set to premiere at the upcoming Helsinki International Film Festival – Love & Anarchy. Ahead of the premiere, Dufton mentioned: “I am honoured to have my home-town premiere of Big vs Small at Helsinki IFF - Love & Anarchy. It means so much to me that we will start our journey to the audience at a festival that is so supportive of films and filmmakers from different backgrounds.” She also added about her documentary: “One of the things I’m particularly excited about with Big vs Small is that it combines the biggest waves in the world with the icy waters of Finland in a magical way not previously seen on film.”
The cinematography was handled by DoP Sakke Kantosalo, with surf cinematography by Tim Bonython. The sound design is by Juuso Oksala, with an original score by Riversound Music (Markus Karppinen, Matias Karppinen and Janne Eerola).
Big vs Small was produced by Dufton and Heidi Richert for Raggari Films Ltd, and the film has signed with YLE for broadcast and on-demand rights in Finland. Australian sales agent Escapade Media has secured the worldwide rights to the movie.
