According to the synopsis, in the year 2000, twentysomethings Pepo, Roge, Costa and Juan Luis embark on the journey they have always dreamed of, thanks to the well-known Interrail scheme… But when they reach their first destination, Paris, the adventure – and their friendship along with it – comes to an abrupt halt. Twenty years later, Juan Luis is dead. His dying wish was to donate his sizeable inheritance to his three old friends. But in exchange, he asks them to finish the Interrail trip that they were unable to complete, under some interesting conditions… They have to take their friend’s ashes along with them so that he can “live out” the experience with them. Out of love for the deceased, these three 40-year-old teenagers will have to set aside their differences, visit the very same cities and party just like they did before, but in a much tamer and more lamentable fashion. And with sky-high levels of cholesterol, too...

The first-time director states: “While an Interrail journey is already an adventure in itself for thousands of young people all over the world, merely imagining this type of trip being undertaken by our three disaster-prone fortysomethings will be, at the very least, a very worthwhile exercise. The pathos of the situations that the protagonists get themselves into as they behave like 20-year-old lads and see how harsh reality comes mercilessly crashing down on them is, without a doubt, one of the film’s greatest strengths. I’m making a high-paced, highly visual comedy, in which our three fish out of water will wreak havoc as they travel around the whole of Europe. Being able to make my feature debut with such an appealing premise is a real privilege.”

Lastly, Iván Losada, CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment Iberia, says: “The word ‘Interrail’ is associated with sentiments such as freedom, adventure and fun – the same ones that cinema must also always try to capture. And we are in no doubt that Fer’s huge talent will bring a crazy trip to the big screen, which perfectly encapsulates what many generations have done, wanted to do or dream of doing.”

Descarrilados is being produced by Mono Films and Sony Pictures International Productions, in conjunction with Kilima Media and with the involvement of Amazon Prime Video. Its theatrical release in Spain is slated for summer 2021, courtesy of Sony Pictures Entertainment Iberia. After showing in cinemas, it will be available on Amazon Prime Video Spain.
