by Gabriele Salvatores is the Italian representative going forward to compete for the Oscar for Best Foreign Film. The decision has been announced today by ANICA. With this choice of the film by the Oscar winning director of Mediterraneo, which had been the favourite to win for some time, the bitter battle for the Italian nomination has finally come to an end. The process became bitter because of the rows following the entry of new members to the Ente David jury, who subsequently became eligible to cast their votes, and also followed Pupi Avati’s withdrawal from the race. "We’re still alive and kicking – said Avati yesterday – and it would be a crime not to compete with a film which is going down well with the Americans. We could also take part in the Oscars by entering the film in other sections, apart from that for Best Foreign Film. Of course we won’t enjoy the advantages that come from having your country’s nomination, but nevertheless we’re still doing a lot of promotion for the film in America”. In fact the film will be released in American cinemas at the end of October, distributed by Northern Linghts.
