Exceptional situations call for exceptional alliances. And so, several independent distributors and producers in Belgium, such as Anga, Athena, Cinéart, Cinemien, Imagine, Kwassa, Lumière, Mooov, O’Brother and September Film, have reached an agreement with the VoD platforms VOO and Proximus Pickx VOD, as well as dalton.be, lumierefilms.be and universcine.be, so that these services can host and stream those films that were on the cinema listings when national cinemas closed or whose release had been planned for the next few days. A number of other distributors may still be added to this list.

This is an unprecedented initiative designed to show solidarity, which will allow film buffs to continue to amuse themselves during this testing time, by discovering the latest batch of movies that are hitting the headlines while staying safe at home. Starting on 20 March, the first films will be available on the platforms at a fixed price of €7.99. The array of titles on offer will be updated with new films on a regular basis.

It’s true that it’s heartbreaking for the creators of these works, who are seeing the fruits of their labour, which had been conceived, produced and nurtured for the big screen, “reduced down” to fit in a living room, but it’s a way for the industry to (hopefully) keep its head above water and to maintain its connection with the audience, by offering them some truly exceptional propositions.

This unprecedented initiative will come to an end as soon as the movie theatres reopen, when the films due to be released nationally will take their rightful place back on the big screen.

Two of the titles that have been announced for the time being are the releases of Jumbo [+see also:
