Dedicated to young independent and innovative cinema, the Entrevues Belfort Film Festival has revealed the winners of its 34th edition (which took place from 18 to 25 November). The prize list is dominated by Los miembros de la familia from Argentine filmmaker Mateo Bendesky, which was handed the Janine Bazin Grand Prize by a jury composed of filmmakers Danielle Arbid, Marie Dumora, João Pedro Rodrigues and Yann Gonzalez, as well as exhibitor Nicolas Reyboubet. The film, the second feature from the director, was first unveiled in the Panorama section of the Berlinale and its international sales are handled by German company Patra Spanou Film Marketing & Consulting.

, a film directed by Süheyla Schwenk — who was born in Sweden then grew up in Turkey — as part of her studies at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB). Written by the young filmmaker (who also edited the film), the script centres on Hayat who has come to Berlin with her husband Harun in the hopes of giving a better future to their unborn child. They only brought with them a small suitcase and Hayat’s nightmares, memories of her life in Syria… It is worth noting that Süheyla Schwenk is among the eight people selected to participate in the Talent Village of the 11th Les Arcs Film Festival (14 to 21 December – read the news).

Finally, among the oddities of the prize list, the post-production support fund in the 11th edition of the "Films in progress" section went to The Plains by David Easteal, an Australian self-produced fiction / documentary hybrid with a runtime of 2h58 which follows, as the seasons pass, a man returning home to the banlieue of Melbourne every day after work.

This 34th edition of the Entrevues Belfort Film Festival featured sections dedicated, respectively, to French director Pierre Salvadori, to East-German cinema, and to Algeria today.
