(produced by Bulletproof Cupid and Family Affair Films) was awarded the Cinekid Lion for Best Children’s Film and €7,500 – as decided by jurors, directors Likarion Wainana and Ronald Rovers, The Film Kitchen’s Ineke Kanters and Cineuropa’s editor-in-chief, Domenico La Porta. Also chosen as this year’s opening film, it tells the story of a young vlogger trying to fight for her family, threatened again after previously having fled Congo for Belgium: a girl that simply can’t take ‘no’ for an answer.

“I can not understand why children are sent to countries they’ve never been to, so I researched and studied this [subject]” – said winning writer-director Frederike Migom about her feature debut, briefly quizzed by Cineuropa on Sunday evening. “Through making films I seek to find knowledge of the world and this film is that specific quest. I also wanted a heroine that claims her place in society. The place she knows she deserves to have.”

Mischa Kamp’s family drama Romy’s Salon, dealing with the struggles that come with Alzheimer’s disease, was chosen as the Best Dutch Family Film, and the Best International Animated Short award and €2,500 went to Heatwave by Fokion Xenos. Same amounts were given out to Kato de Boeck’s Provence (Best International Live Action Short), Sjaak Rood’s At First Sight (Best Dutch Animation Short), René van Zundert’s 180CC (Best Dutch Documentary Short) and finally, En route directed by Marit Weerheijm and crowned as Best Dutch Live Action Short. Hacker by Poul Berg was chosen as the Best Youth Film.

Predictably, the audience, even the youngest, was also given a chance to speak, naming the Swedish comedy Sune vs Sune [+see also:
