), which took the box office by storm in 2014, earning itself a grand total of 2.3 million euros.

Starring Valerio Mastandrea, Riccardo Scamarcio, Laura Chiatti, Valentina Cervi, Marina Foïs, Massimiliano Gallo and Euridice Axen, The Players is an episodic film in the tradition of the Italian-style comedies popularised between the 1950s and the 80s. Through five short stories, we are told of the amorous misadventures of five men, each of them grappling with wives, girlfriends and lovers. It’s an irreverent and amusing though somewhat bitter look at love. Based upon an idea put forward by the actor-director Jean Dujardin, the French original was penned by eight different authors who put together 11 stories on male infidelity and its many incarnations. One woman, Emmanuelle Bercot, also appeared in the list of directors, among the likes of Dujardin himself, Gilles Lellouche and Michel Hazanavicius.

The screenplay for the Italian remake was written by the director himself, alongside Riccardo Scamarcio and Filippo Bologna. Scamarcio is also producing the film via Lebowski, as well as Indigo Film, HT Film, 102 Distribution and RAI Cinema. It will be distributed in Italian cinemas by 01.

Mordini’s movie is now entering into post-production: Massimo Fiocchi is once again in charge of editing, having already collaborated with the director on the afore-mentioned thriller The Invisible Witness [+see also:

. Another remake - though this time of a Spanish work - this 2018 film also starred Scamarcio in the lead role, hauling in 2.2 million euros at the Italian box office. The same director of photography, Gigi Martinucci, is also on board for this project, while set design is in the hands of Luca Merlini.
