Written by Marc Fitoussi and based on the novel, Betrayal, by Swedish author Karin Altvegen, the film is set against the backdrop of Vienna and its imperial palaces, the blue waters of the Danube and… the microscopic French community that lives in the city. The young, well looked-upon couple, Ève and Henri, who are parents to little Malo, have all the makings of a happy life. He is the conductor of the Opéra orchestra, she works at the Institut français. A life without fault, apparently. Until Henri falls for the charms of their son’s schoolteacher…

Produced by Christine Gozlan and David Poirot for Thelma Films, Appearances is co-produced by Belgian firm Scope Pictures and by SND. Pre-purchased by Canal+ and Ciné+, this feature film is also supported by the screen.brussels fund and by SOFICA funds, Palatine Étoile and Manon. The six-week film shoot is scheduled to run between 8 April and 22 May in Vienna and Brussels, with Antoine Roch helming cinematography. SND is in charge of distribution in France and sales (with the exception of the Benelux Union where sales will be handled by Telescope).
