(2015), the Danish filmmaker is preparing the shoot for a drama set during World War II, penned by Kristian Bang Foss and herself.

The plot is set in 1940 and is based on the true story of Henrik Kauffmann, who was the Danish ambassador in the USA when the Third Reich occupied Denmark. In particular, the story centres on Kauffmann's refusal to surrender to the Germans' diktats and his brave, rebellious plan to defeat the Führer and free his country.

Speaking about the lead character, the director explained: “Henrik Kauffmann is a wild, courageous and surprising character. He is a political rebel who decides to go his own way at a very dangerous time for Denmark. His lone effort fascinates me deeply, as do his drive and his lack of compromise. He created extraordinary results, but the price was high. I very much look forward to sharing the story of Henrik Kauffmann with the rest of the world.”

Ulrich Thomsen, who recently appeared on the big screen in Kasper Torsting's In Love and War (2018) and Birgitte Stærmose's Darling [+see also:

) will be his trusted collaborator, Danish diplomat Povl Bang-Jensen.

The film is being produced by Jonas Frederiksen (The IdealistThe Miracle) for Frederiksberg-based company Nimbus Film with financial support granted by the Danish Film Institute, national public broadcaster DR, the Nordisk Film & TV Fond and the Copenhagen Film Fund. Principal photography will take place in Hungary and Denmark, and is set to start on 8 April. The Good Traitor will be released nationwide by Sweden's SF Studios in spring 2020.
