APPOINTMENTS Netherlands

Den Hamer heads Rotterdam

by

The board of one of the Netherlands' most important international film events, the Rotterdam Film Festival, has a new director general. She is Sandra den Hamer and she will succeed the current DG, Simon Field as of 1 March 2004.
Born in 1959, Den Hamer graduated from Utrecht University with a degree in Theatrical Studies, she worked for the Netherlands Film Festival and then joined the Rotterdam Festival’s team in 1986 as the CineMart coordinator. Den Hamer was appointed to the position of deputy director in 1992 and in 2000 became co-director with Simon Field. The president of the Rotterdam board, Hans van Beers is delighted with the news, especially in light of the increasingly important international profile the festival has carved out for itself in recent years. De Hamer will work with Field on the 33rd edition which will run from 21 January to 1 February 2004.
