Annual box-office earnings decrease by 9% in Bulgaria in 2018

Bulgarian cinemas ended 2018 with a yearly total of 4,900,408 admissions, a 12% decrease compared to 2017 (5,573,812 admissions), according to data made public by the Bulgarian National Film Center. Last year’s number of admissions is lower than the number of viewers racked up in 2016 (5,532,490) and 2015 (5,335,073). In terms of earnings, 2018 brought in a total of €23.54 million, a 9.2% decrease compared to 2017 (€25.93 million). 

Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation was the most popular film released last year in Bulgaria, notching up 170,178 admissions. The Sony Pictures Animations production was followed by Avengers: Infinity War, with 145,000 admissions, Bohemian Rhapsody [+see also:

(142,244), Venom (133,619) and The Grinch (128,292).

As for domestic releases, 2018 brought a steep decrease from 2017 (a total of 388,000 admissions last year, as against almost 513,000 in 2017), but the numbers are still excellent when compared to those from 2016 (177,647) and 2015 (only 94,804).

 was the most popular domestic release of 2018, with almost 113,000 tickets sold. Interestingly, local star Yana Marinova plays a high-school teacher and former dancer, a character very similar to the one she played in The 11th Grade [+see also:

, which was Bulgaria's top domestic earner of 2016.

Attraction is followed in the domestic chart by Dimitar Gochev's Revolution X, with almost 54,600 admissions, and by Niki Iliev's All She Wrote [+see also:
