EXCLUSIVE: Trailer for Ásthildur Kjartansdóttir's drama The Deposit

Gísella (Elma Lísa Gunnarsdóttir) is a 40-year-old woman who rents out spare bedrooms in her lavish Reykjavik home to two immigrant women, Maria (Raffaella Brizuela Sigurðardóttir) and Abeba (Enid Mbabazi). Abeba moves in to the spare room with her daughter, Luna (Claire Kristinsdóttir). When Gísella loses her job as a journalist, she becomes desperate and stars writing a freelance article about the lives of the women living in her home. An arrangement that begins well soon develops into Gísella’s worst nightmare as she loses control of her home and her sanity.

film profile], the new film by Ásthildur Kjartansdóttir, who is an experienced director, producer and scriptwriter, mostly involved in the making of TV series and documentary films. Her most notable works, such as In Sickness and in Health, Riff and Palli Alone, have successfully been distributed in Nordic countries and Canada. Penned by the director herself, the screenplay of her upcoming drama is based on Auður Jónsdóttir’s 2006 novel of the same name.
The Deposit was produced by Eva Sigurðardóttir for Reykjavík-based firms Askja Films and Rebella Filmworks, with the support of the Icelandic Film Centre. Sena is in charge of its distribution in Iceland and abroad.
