The story, written by the pair of directors in conjunction with Romain Choay, revolves around Matthias, an Olympic champion at the end of his career, who makes a homophobic statement on TV. His punishment is to coach the Shiny Shrimps, a flamboyant amateur gay water-polo team. They have only one goal in mind: to qualify for the Gay Games in Croatia, where the hottest international LGBT athletes compete. It's the start of a bumpy and joyful ride... Faster, higher, stronger.

Produced by Renaud Chélékian for Les Improductibles Films (a partner on the two previous features by Maxime Govare) and by Edouard Duprey for Kaly Productions (which previously worked on I Kissed a Girl), The Shiny Shrimps is being co-produced by Charades. Having been pre-purchased by Canal+ and Ciné+, the feature has also secured backing from the Grand Est region, the city of Mulhouse and the Indéfilms Sofica. The seven-week shoot includes one week in Croatia, five in the Grand Est region and one in Paris (including footage to be recorded on 4 August at the Stade Jean-Bouin for the opening ceremony of the 2018 Gay Games). The French distribution will be handled by Universal Pictures France, while the international sales will be entrusted to Charades.
