Written by Peter Brunner himself (with Michael Haneke as Dramaturgical Consultant), the film focuses on Norman, the sole survivor of a tragic fire accident which took place when he was a child, who has been struggling with feelings of guilt ever since.  Norman tries to create a new life for himself with his girlfriend Penelope and their young son. But one night, when his traumatic memories are reignited once again, Norman sets out on a quest like no other, following a trail of flames which promises to heal his pain once and for all…

Produced by Oliver Neumann and Sabine Moser for Freibeuter Film, To the Night is co-produced by American firm Loveless and by Ulrich Seidl Filmproduktion, with the support of the Austrian Film Institute among others.

Other stand-out pictures currently featuring on the Reel Suspects slate include the South African thriller, Number 37, by Nosipho Dumisa (which premiered at the SXSW Festival in Austin), but also Adelaide(Leviano). This first full-length film by Portuguese director Justin Amorim – whose domestic cinema release date is set for 5 July - focuses on three teenage sisters whose lives are turned upside down when their mother disappears during her 50th birthday party celebrations. Joining forces with two boys who are new in town, and whose brother also vanished into thin air that same night, they set out into the unknown, on a journey that is part-adventure, part-self-discovery, but whose tragic consequences are reminiscent of one of the most controversial crimes ever committed in Portugal.
