The winners of the 2018 When East Meets West awards

The eighth edition of When East Meets West (WEMW, 21-23 January) has wrapped with the announcement of the winners of eight awards at the co-production forum, which featured 21 projects.

Also taking place during the event, the Last Stop Trieste documentary segment revealed its winners, as did the work-in-progress section for films produced or co-produced by Italian companies, This is IT, as well as RE-ACT, the regional funding initiative of the Croatian Audiovisual Centre, Friuli Venezia Giulia Audiovisual Fund and Slovenian Film Centre, in collaboration with TorinoFilmLab.

At WEMW, the Film Centre Serbia Development Award went to Small Body [+see also:

by Italian filmmaker Laura Samani. The project also won one of the six RE-ACT awards. The Italian-Lithuanian project I'll Stand by You by Virginija Vareikyte and Maximilien Dejoie received the newly established Baltic Award. Meanwhile, the European Women's Audiovisual Network Award went to the Slovenian-Finnish-Austrian co-production Skiing in Scarves by Haidy Kancler.

At Last Stop Trieste, the HBO Europe Award went to Victor Cruz's 100 Trips Around the Sun (Argentina/Italy), and the Czech-Latvian project My Unknown Soldier [+see also:

by Anna Kryvenko received the Flow Digital Cinema Award. At This Is IT, the Laser Film Award went to Stories from the Chestnut Woods [+see also:

by Gregor Božič (Slovenia/Italy).

RE-ACT delivered its prizes for the third time, and in addition to Small Body, among the six winners (each receiving €8,000) are the new projects by Igor Bezinović and Špela Čadež.
