Written by the director along with Swiss-born Jean-Stéphane Bron (who has also previously collaborated on Disorder), the plot focuses on a female astronaut. Living in Cologne and working at the European Space Agency, she learns that she’ll be embarking on a one-year mission to space somewhat sooner than expected, leaving her seven-year-old daughter behind with her father. The film dissects their mother-daughter relationship and how to reconcile a passion, an absolute dream, with having a family life.

Produced by Isabelle Madelaine for Dharamsala and by Emilie Tisné for Darius Films, Proxima was co-produced by France 3 Cinema, Pathé and the German outfit Pandora. Pre-purchased by Canal+ and Ciné+, the feature film has also been supported by an advance on earnings from CNC and the regions of Ile-de-France, Sud Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). The 45-day shoot is due to take place from 15 February to 30 April in France (30 days), in Kazakhstan (in Baikonur where space flights take off), in Russia (not far from Moscow, in Star City where astronauts are prepped) and in Germany (at the European Space Agency in Cologne). Bac will be driving French distribution and international sales.

Dharamsala has already produced Alice Winocour's first two films, as well as Mascarades [+see also:
