The Venice Golden Lion winner, The Shape of Water, landed a leading 12 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director for Guillermo del Toro and Best Actress for Sally Hawkins, as the nominations for the 2018 British Academy Film Awards were unveiled in London.

Away from The Shape of Water, British talent dominates the BAFTA nominations. Joe Wright’s Darkest Hour [+see also:

). The odd one out is Timothée Chalamet, who stars in Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me by Your Name.

The actress nominees are Brit Sally Hawkins for The Shape of Water, Ireland’s Saoirse Ronan for Lady Bird, Australia’s Margot Robbie for I, Tonya, and two Americans in films made by Brits: Annette Bening (Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool) and Frances McDormand (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri).
