It should therefore come as no surprise that augenschein has chosen to support the feature debut by talented director Patrick Vollrath, which is an international (co-produced by Austrian outfit Novotny & Novotny Filmproduktion) and multilingual (featuring dialogue in German, English and Turkish) thriller. The young filmmaker himself has already won renown on the international stage, scooping a Student Oscar and bagging a nomination for the Oscar for Best Short Film (Live Action) for his Everything Will Be Okay (2015).

, penned by Vollrath and currently in pre-production, unfolds entirely on an Airbus that has been hijacked by terrorists somewhere between Paris and Berlin. Incidentally, “7500” refers to the emergency code used for this situation in the world of aviation. The plot focuses more particularly on the plane’s cockpit, where the co-pilot, 27-year-old Tobias Ellis, finds himself face to face with 18-year-old Veclat, facing a huge moral decision between life and death. The film’s distributor has yet to be announced, but we can already confirm that the role of Tobias will be played by US actor Paul Dano (Little Miss SunshineThere Will Be Blood).

7500 has received backing from the Film und Medien Stiftung NRW (€60,000 in development support, €800,000 in production aid), the FFA (€350,000) and the Filmförderung Baden-Württemberg (€200,000). The Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein is also supporting the production to the tune of €200,000.
