Written by Benchetrit himself (nominated for the César Award for Best Adaptation in 2016 for Macadam Stories) and Gábor Rassov (who is serving as the director's writing partner for the third time, and who also co-penned movies such as I Am Standard Supporter [+see also:

and Un jour mon prince), and based on Benchetrit's novel of the same name, the story of Dog revolves around Jacques Blanchot, who loses everything – his wife, his son, his home and his job. He gradually becomes detached from the world around him. A pet-shop owner takes him in, but as he is unable to make a friend, he makes him his dog instead. But to what extent can someone be dehumanised? This is the story of the demise of an everyman (could be me, could be you), told with humour and self-deprecation…

Produced by Julien Madon (a European Film Promotion Producer on the Move 2016 – read the interview) for Single Man and Marie Savare de Laitre for Maje Productions, who had already teamed up for Macadam Stories, Dog is being co-produced by Belgian outfit Umedia and Paris-based company Emotions Films. Having been pre-purchased by OCS, the feature will be distributed in France by Paradis Films and will be sold abroad by German sales agent Films Boutique.
