15/11/2016 - The 11th edition of the Segovia European Film Festival kicks off on Wednesday 16 November, packing the city full of enticing titles, some of which have not yet been released in Spain

From 16-22 November, there will be another reason to visit Segovia, besides its beautiful architecture and its spectacular cuisine: 118 films from 40 countries will be showcased at MUCES (the Segovia European Film Festival), which opens with Toni Erdmann [+see also:

film profile], this season’s current sensation. In addition, there will be screenings of the ten features longlisted to compete for the LUX Film Prize, and the gathering will organise a retrospective of Slovakian cinema, revisiting the country’s most iconic titles from over the decades.

What’s more, Spanish filmmaker Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón will receive a very well-deserved tribute on Friday 18 at MUCES, where six of his finest works will be shown, including Black Litter and Demonios en el jardín. The other sections of the gathering are “Una de las nuestras” (“One of Our Own” – featuring recent interesting Spanish movies), “Rodada en Segovia” (“Shot in Segovia” – films that have used the historic city as a setting), “De las dos orillas” (“From the Two Shores” – co-productions between Europe and America) and “Cervantes versus Shakespeare” (six movies about Don Quixote and four others that adapt Hamlet).
