from the Slovakian critics. That same night, the Slovakian filmmaker also netted the Igric Award for Best Audiovisual Work of 2015 (organised by the Literary Fund, the Slovak Film Union and the Union of Slovakian Television Creators) for his directing, while Emília Vášáryová won the Igric for Best Female Performance, and her co-starring colleagues Anikó Vargová and Milan Ondrík left the stage with a Creative Prize for their performances. Also that same day, the Slovak Television and Film Academy (SFTA) picked Eva Nová as the country’s candidate for the Best Foreign-language Film nomination at the 89th Academy Awards – an unsurprising decision, given that the SFTA had already honoured the movie with five of its The Sun in a Net national awards earlier this year (read the news).

, last year’s Slovakian submission for the Oscars nomination (read the news). Škop world-premiered his fiction feature debut at Toronto last year, winning the FIPRESCI Award, and the drama about an ageing actress and recovering alcoholic trying to reconcile with her estranged son then continued to receive critical acclaim and snag further awards around the festival circuit.

Eva Nová was produced by Marko Škop and Ján Meliš for Slovakian outfit Artileria, and was co-produced by Alice Tabery of Czech company Sirius Film and Radio and Television Slovakia, with support from the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic, the Slovak Audiovisual Fund, the MEDIA programme and the Czech State Cinematography Fund. The film’s sales agent is Loco Films (Laurent Danielou and Florencia Gil).
