went into production today in Madrid, one of Pedro Almodòvar’s favourite locations. The set is scheduled to move to Barcelona, Valencia and A Coruña over the next three months.
Almodòvar also wrote the screenplay, which is based on the autobiographical short story entitled “La Visita” that he wrote more than thirty years ago, when he was an angry adolescent. La mala educaciòn is the director’s fifteenth feature.
Three is the key to this film: three characters make three visits, and their respective stories intertwine three times over three decades (the 60s, 70s and 80s). The “bad education” of the title refers to the “bad teachers” (priests and monks) that Almodòvar encountered in his youth. Despite this, he denied that this film will be against the Church but rather a tragedy full of surprise turns and dark secrets and reminiscent of his 1987 film, The Law of Desire.
Unlike Almodòvar’s earlier films, this one will focus on men. The director has cast Mexican actor Gael García Bernal, Fele Martínez, Juan Fernández and one of his favourite talents, Javier Camára (Speak to her [+see also:

). The director’s brother, Augustin, will produce La Mala Educaciòn through his El Deseo slate.
