Red & Black hits market with Don’t Knock Twice and Hindsight

UK production company Red & Black Films is presenting supernatural horror Don’t Knock Twice at the Cannes Film Market this week. Written by Mark Huckerby and Nick Ostler, the film follows a mother desperate to reconnect with her troubled daughter and becomes embroiled in the urban legend of a demonic witch. The film stars Lucy Boynton, one of the stars of John Carney’s Sing Street [+see also:

that is currently on release, Katee Sackhoff and Nick Moran. Director Caradog James and producer John Giwa-Amu, the team behind 2013 indie hit The Machine that sold across the world and was commissioned for a spin-off television series by NBC Universal, are behind Don’t Knock Twice as well. The film was fully financed in Red & Black’s home territory of Wales and partners include partners including Ffilm Cymru Wales, Pinewood Pictures, the Welsh Government and Altara. After the success of The Machine Content Media is on board again to handle international sales.

Next up on Red & Black’s slate is a science fiction thriller about time travel titled Hindsight. The film will be directed by Caradog and produced by Giwa-Amu. The film will move into production in 2017 and is being pitched to financiers during the Market.

Red & Black’s The Silent Storm, written and directed by Corinna McFarlane, best known for BIFA-nominated and Göteborg Film Festival winning documentary Three Miles North of Molkom [+see also:

, follows an enigmatic outsider living on a remote Scottish island who finds herself caught between her minister husband and the delinquent who is sent to live with them. It stars Damian Lewis (one of the stars of current release Our Kind of Traitor [+see also:

) and Andrea Riseborough (Shadow Dancer [+see also:

), and is due a UK release on 20 May. The film is co-produced with Neon Films, The British Film Company, Film Cymru Wales, Corniche, HW Buffalo & Co, New Sparta and Eon Films, with international sales being handled by Sony Pictures and WestEnd.

Also due a UK release on 20 May is The Call Up, where a group of online gamers are invited to try a state-of-the-art virtual reality video game but things take a turn for the sinister. Written and directed by feature debutant Charles Barker, the film stars Parker Sawyers, who played Barack Obama in Richard Tanne’s Sundance 2016 Grand Jury Prize nominated Southside with You, Christopher Obi and Morfydd Clark. The film premiered last month at the Brussels International Film Festival and closed Sci-Fi London last week. Red & Black co-produced with the UK’s Stigma Films and the film was financed by Creative England, Pont Neuf and Marzipan and is being sold by Altitude.
