Fortissimo Films has closed several territories at Berlin for Theeb [+see also:

(Jordan/UK/UAE/Qatar), which won the BAFTA for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer for writer/director Naji Abu Nowar and producer Rupert Lloyd on Sunday (see the news). The film has sold to JIFF Distribution for Australia, Rialto Distribution for New Zealand, Lemon Tree for China, Neo Films for Greece, Entermode for Korea and Edko for Hong Kong. Deals previously concluded include Jour2Fete for France, New Wave Films for the UK, Cinemien for Benelux, AS Fidalgo Film Distribution for Norway, Film Movement for the US and Paris Filmes for Brazil.

Set in the Ottoman province of Hijaz during World War I, the film follows a young Bedouin boy who experiences a hastened coming-of-age as he embarks on a perilous desert journey to guide a British officer to his secret destination.

Theeb began its stellar festival run in 2014, winning the Venice Horizons Award for Best Director. At Camerimage 2014, it won Best Directorial Debut, and at the Cairo International Film Festival the same year, it won the Jury Prize for Best Cinematography and Artistic Direction. The film also won big at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival 2014, taking home the FIPRESCI Prize and Best Film from the Arab World at the New Horizons Competition. At the 2015 Beijing International Film Festival, Theeb won the Forward Future Award for Best Picture by a New Director.

The film is also Oscar-nominated in the Best Foreign-language Film of the Year category.
