– Norway’s (and Scandinavia’s) first disaster movie – lured 832,649 local audience members into theatres, and the title thus became the most popular film of 2015 (and the seventh most popular of all time), according to statistics from Norwegian cinema association Film & Kino. The Wave contributed to the best result of the last ten years for Norwegian cinemas: total attendance figures of 12,028,030.

and Star Wars: The Force Awakens were competing for cinemagoers,” said Birgitte Langballe, head of communication at Film & Kino. 

Local productions accounted for a 20.5% market share – 9.1% less than last year, and the fourth-lowest result in ten years. This share was notched up at the last minute by a strong audience turnout during the Christmas week (the second best in ten years), when Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Norwegian director Rasmus A Sivertsen’s Solan and Ludvig: The Big Cheese Race [+see also:

shared 73% of all cinema admissions.

Thirty-seven Norwegian films were premiered in 2015, but 13 of them sold fewer than 10,000 tickets, including Bobbie PeersThe Disappearing Illusionist [+see also:

Here is the list of Norway’s top ten films of 2015: The Wave (832,649 admissions), Spectre (688,450 admissions), Star Wars: The Force Awakens (471,800 admissions), Minions (457,166 admissions), Fast & Furious 7 (423,724 admissions), Jurassic World (411,991 admissions), Fifty Shades of Grey (321,548 admissions), Inside Out (285,332 admissions), The Christmas King: In Full Armour (271,060 admissions), The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (270,807 admissions).
