The French film and television industry is really holding its own in the nominations for the 73rd Golden Globes, which will be given out on 10 January next year. The list of productions selected by the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association particularly highlighted the very strong French involvement in the category of Best Foreign-language Film, as four out of the five titles chosen see the participation of France in one area or another.

film profile] by Deniz Gamze Ergüven, a French executive-produced film staged by Charles Gillibert for Paris-based outfit CG Cinéma and also representing France in the race for the nominations for the 2016 Oscar. Co-produced by Turkey and Germany, Mustang was supported by the CNC’s World Cinema Support and the Franco-German Mini-traité. Having already been sold all around the world by Kinology, the feature has enticed 457,000 viewers into theatres in France (distributed by Ad Vitam).

film profile] by Belgian director Jaco Van Dormael. Co-produced by France with a stake of 20% (via Après le déluge) and pre-purchased by OCS, the film is being sold abroad by Paris-based company Le Pacte (which also distributed it in France, where it took a total of 816,000 admissions).

France also has a presence in the nominations intended to single out television productions, as Gaumont produced (for Netflix) Narcos, which was selected in the categories of Best Television Series – Drama and Best Actor – Television Series Drama (for Brazilian performer Wagner Moura). Lastly, Eva Green is in the running for Best Actress – Television Series Drama for her performance in the US-Irish-British production Penny Dreadful.
