With the shoot now on the home stretch and scheduled to wrap on 12 December in Bordeaux, the filmmaker, who studied in La Fémis’ screenplay department before making a splash with short films such as American Football (awarded at Angers in 2013) and Essaie de mourir jeune (in competition at Clermont-Ferrand last year), has assembled a cast including rising star Kevin Azaïs (winner of the César Award and the Lumière Award for Most Promising Actor this year for Love at First Fight [+see also:

), French-Welsh actor Nathan Willcocks (a very familiar face in Morgan Simon’s short films) and Canada’s Monia Chokri (popular in such titles as Heartbeats, Laurence Anyways [+see also:

Written by Morgan Simon himself, the story revolves around Vincent, who is not even 30 years old, but has already covered half of his body in tattoos and made his voice all gravelly because of his post-hardcore group. Since his mother’s death, he has been spending his life between his job as a drill operator, which he doesn’t like one bit, and his fishmonger father, who is attempting to rebuild his life with a younger woman. And that is making him ill...

Produced by Amaury Ovise and Jean-Christophe Reymond for Kazak Productions, A Taste of Ink has been pre-purchased by Canal+, and is benefiting from support from the CNC’s advance on receipts, the Aquitaine region and the La Banque Postale Image 9 Sofica. For the record, the project, which was singled out with a Special Prize at the Junior Award for Best Screenplay, was also selected at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival’s Cinéfondation Atelier and at Emergence in 2014. The shoot kicked off on 28 October and has been taking place in Paris and Bordeaux. Distribution in France will be handled by Rezo Films, and international sales will be managed by Versatile.

Interestingly, Kazak Productions will be attending the Coproduction Village at the seventh Les Arcs European Film Festival from 12-15 December with the project Un vrai bâtard by Teddy Lussi-Modeste (who co-wrote the screenplay with Rebecca Zlotowski).
