Now an independent, Sweden's NonStop goes on a shopping spree

Stockholm-based Nordic and Baltic distributor NonStop Entertainment, which was taken over in a management buy-out from Time Warner's Turner Broadcasting System by its distribution and acquisition director, Jakob Abrahamsson, and its original co-founder, CG Andersson, has announced its first line-up as an independent.

“Newly reborn, we have solidified our profile with a slew of extraordinary acquisitions, ranging from UK actress Kate Winslet's The Dressmaker, via the post-apocalyptic thriller She Who Brings Gifts, to US multi-disciplinary artist Laurie Anderson's outstanding and mesmerising documentary Heart of a Dog [+see also:

 – they put us exactly where we want to be for the upcoming 2016 season,” said Abrahamsson.

Australian director Jocelyn Moorhouse's The Dressmaker – a revenge comedy drama starring Winslet, Judy DavisLiam Hemsworth and Hugo Weaving – was acquired from Embankment. It leads the “Australian Oscar” nominations – the AACTA Awards, to be presented on 11 December – competing in 12 categories.

Spanish director Paco Cabezas' action-comedy Mr Right and Canadian director Patricia Rozema's sci-fi drama Into the Forest were purchased from Sierra-Affinity and Celsius, respectively, while UK director Colm McCarthy's She Who Brings Gifts [+see also:

 – starring Gemma Arterton and Glenn Close – came through Altitude.

UK director Rufus Norris (the new artistic director of the National Theatre) has directed London Road [+see also:

, a musical mystery-thriller starring Tom Hardy (from Protagonist), and Venezuelan director Lorenzo VigasFrom Afar (Celluloid Dreams), which won the Golden Lion at Venice, explores repressed gay love in the violent city of Caracas. 

Heart of a Dog (Celluloid Dreams), Anderson's documentary, reflects on the deaths of her husband (singer-songwriter Lou Reed), her mother and her beloved dog. Swedish director Erik Gandini's The Swedish Theory of Love (Fasad) looks at modern society in general and the Swedish welfare state in particular. 

Finally, Swedish actors Ola Rapace and Ruth Vega Fernandez star in French director Jean-Patrick Benes' sci-fi thriller Arès [+see also:

 (Gaumont), Canada's Heather Lenz portrays Japanese artist Yayoi Kusuma in Life in Polka Dots (Dogwoof), while US actor-writer-director Eli Roth updates the cannibal genre in Green Inferno (Bloom).
