While Finnish cinema was still celebrating the record-breaking performance of Antti J Jokinen’s The Midwife [+see also:

, it was surpassed in last weekend’s charts by Teppo Airaksinen’s Lapland Odyssey 2 [+see also:

, which has taken 104,403 admissions over five days for Nordisk Film Finland, taking it to the number-one spot. 

The second film about Janne and Inari – the Finn from Lapland who has made a career out of living on welfare, and his girlfriend, who wants him to get a grip on life, now revisited five years later – relegated Disney’s Inside Out to second, while The Midwife (Nordisk) came in third, having now racked up 177,342 admissions. (Nordisk) – the sequel to her Jill and Joy (2014) – took sixth position, selling 7,060 tickets for previews only.

Meanwhile, in Norway, September statistics show that local films broke two records: the highest number of tickets sold for Norwegian films in a month (780,647), and the best market share (62.7%) for local fare. 

According to Norwegian cinema association Film & Kino, total cinema attendance after the third quarter of the year is 7.1% higher than it was in 2014, and there are still local and foreign releases with strong audience expectations on the schedule. “All of this points towards a new year with stable admissions, both for local films and in general,” said Birgitte Langballe, head of communications at Film & Kino. 

The first disaster movie in the Nordic countries – and Norway’s official candidate for the Oscar nominations – Roar Uthaug’s The Wave [+see also:

, is still pulling in the crowds, so far reaching 715,157 admissions and coming in at number one in the overall charts. Arne Lindtner NæssCasper and Emma on Safari [+see also:

has lured 209,910 Norwegians into theatres, while Rasmus A Sivertsen and Rune SpaansTwo Buddies and a Badger [+see also:

– which opened on 25 September – has so far reached 102,208 admissions.
