Ingrid Bergman is still the biggest star in Sweden
- Scandinavian distributor NonStop Entertainment has got off to a flying start with Stig Björkman’s biopic of the Swedish Hollywood actress
Swedish Hollywood star Ingrid Bergman gave Scandinavian distributor NonStop Entertainment a record opening for a Swedish documentary, delighting its new owners, Jakob Abrahamsson and CG Anderson, who recently bought the company from Time Warner’s Turner Broadcasting System.
“This is an amazing start for the company under our new independent flag. Ingrid Bergman – In Her Own Words delivers amazing box-office figures every day of the week,” said Abrahamsson, NonStop Entertainment’s new CEO, who used to be head of distribution-acquisition under Turner rule.
Swedish director Stig Björkman’s documentary on the actress, which was world-premiered at Cannes, had by 13 September taken 87,975 admissions since its Swedish gala premiere at Stockholm’s Royal Dramatic Theatre, which was attended by her four children, Isabella Rossellini, Renato Roberto Giusto Giuseppe Rossellini, Isotta Ingrid Rossellini and Pia Lindström.
Also, Swedish actress Alicia Vikander, who reads Bergman’s diaries and letters in the film, found time in her busy schedule to take part in the actress’ 100th-anniversary celebrations. Currently in cinemas starring with British actor Henry Cavill in The Man from Uncle, she was on her way to Venice to present UK director Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl [+see also:

Produced by Mantaray Film’s Stina Gardell, who co-wrote the biopic with Björkman and Dominica Daubenbüchel, Ingrid Bergman – In Her Own Words initially recorded 46,420 admissions, making it the strongest Swedish opening for a local film – documentary or fiction – in 2015, and the best result for a documentary – Swedish or international – this century.
