Not a great deal is known about the plot of Le Fidèle, apart from the fact that it is a love story set against a film-noir backdrop, all revolving around the world of crime in Brussels. Its official title, in French, and its cast suggest that the movie may be shot partly in the French language. This is therefore a new experiment for Roskam, who after the success of Bullhead [+see also:

(shot in Flemish) was lured away to partake in a US adventure when he filmed The Drop two years ago, which starred Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, the late James Gandolfini and Matthias Schoenaerts.

The Flemish actor is the common thread throughout Roskam’s three films; furthermore, the filmmaker is partnering up again with Bart Van Langendonck, of Savage Films, the producer of Bullhead. Incidentally, Savage Films boasts a very busy agenda at the moment. The company is currently presenting The Ardennes, the debut film by Robin Pront (which, by the way, Roskam had considered directing at one point), at Toronto and has just brought out Galloping Mind in Belgium, another feature debut by dancer and choreographer Wim Vandekeybus.
