Now, Film i Väst CEO Tomas Eskilsson has returned to Sweden and a busy production schedule for the centre, which has, since its opening in 1992, co-produced approximately 450 features, today operating on an annual investment budget of €10 million.

The new line-up is spearheaded by two productions announced at Cannes: Swedish director Daniel Espinosa’s new adaptation of Swedish author Vilhelm Moberg’s 1950 classic The Emigrants (which Jan Troell filmed in 1971, a version that was nominated for five Oscars), and Danish director Per Fly’s The Killing of Hammarskjöld, about the life of Swedish diplomat and UN Secretary General Dag Hammarskjöld.

    , a philosophical and romantic thriller based on Danish author Christian Junger's best-selling novel, starring Trine Dyrholm and Nikolaj Lie Kaas, and produced by Louise Vesth, for Zentropa Entertainments
  • Also from Zentropa (Marie Gade Denessen), Danish director Birgitte Stærmose’s dance drama Second Act, written with Kim Fupz Aakeson and due to shoot mainly in Trollhättan
  • Swedish director Linda Hambäck’s fully animated The World of Dolores and Gunellen, from Swedish author Pernilla Stalfelt’s books, in production at Dockhus Animation, with post-production to take place at the centre
