) has started in Berlin. In this turbulent romantic comedy, a German Holocaust historian (Lars Eidinger) and descendant of a famous Nazi criminal is deeply troubled because of his origins, his career and his general misanthropy. In the midst of his existential and marital crisis, he meets a French research assistant (Adèle Haenel) whose grandmother was killed in the concentration camp at Auschwitz. Her unconventional attitude and openness are quite irritating to him, but when he gets closer to her, his whole life is turned upside down.

Kraus considers Die Blumen von gestern his most personal film so far. The script had already been awarded the acclaimed Thomas Strittmatter Prize. The visual concept has been created by German DoP Sonja Rom, and the shoot is taking place in Berlin, Stuttgart, Vienna, Riga and New York. Produced by Kraus’ and Kathrin Lemme’s Berlin-based production outfit Four Minutes, as well as by Danny Krausz, Kurt Stocker and Gerd Huber, of Dor Film, the project received production support from MFG Baden-Württemberg, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, the Federal Film Board, the German Federal Film Fund, the Austrian Film Institute, the Filmfonds Wien, FISA – Filmstandort Austria and Eurimages.

Die Blumen von gestern is expected to be completed in the summer of 2016. The film will be released by Piffl Medien in Germany and Filmladen in Austria, while Beta Cinema is handling the world sales.
