British films vie for eyeballs in crowded release frame

In the run-up to Christmas, distributors are rushing films into British cinemas in order to cash in on the general feeling of bonhomie that goes with the season. Thus, today, 5 December, sees a staggering 15 films hit cinemas. Leading the British charge this holiday season is the saturation release of Kevin Macdonald’s Black Sea [+see also:

, a thriller starring Jude Law. Matthew Hammett Knott’s comedy-drama Bonobo, starring James Norton and Josie Lawrence, is getting a key cities release and will compete for eyeballs with another British production, Christopher Smith’s festival-themed Get Santa, starring Jim Broadbent and Rafe Spall, which is getting a saturation release. UK production Hello Carter, directed by Anthony Wilcox and starring Charlie Cox, also gets a key cities release today.

From the US, Jason Reitman’s drama Men, Women and Children, Ted Melfi’s comedy St. Vincent, starring Bill Murray and Simon Smith, and Eric Darnell’s animation Penguins of Madagascar are getting saturation releases, while Grégory Levasseur’s horror The Pyramid gets a wide release. Bollywood aficionados will get Prabhu Deva’s Action Jackson and Wong Kar Wai fans will finally get to watch The Grandmaster [+see also:
