“A shock to the market – The identity of Arthouse cinemas and the target audience” is the title of the focus scheduled for tomorrow Wednesday at the Arthouse cinema convention that opened last night in Mantua. The experts’ event, following an introduction by Domenico Dinoia, president of FICE (the Italian Arthouse Exhibitors Federation), will see the contribution of Nicola Borrelli, Director General for cinema at MiBACT, Andrea Occhipinti and Francesca Cima, respectively presidents of ANICA’s distribution and production sections, Giovanni Spagnoletti, president of AFIC (the Italian Cinema Festivals Association), Gianluca Farinelli, Director of the Bologna Cinematheque, Mario Lorini and Richard Borg, ANEC and ANICA representatives of Multi-viewing, and a few filmmakers, including Carlo Carlei

Topics of the focus, moderated by cinema critic Franco Montini are: Arthouse cinema diversity and the need to strengthen its identity; the particular viewing and target audience compared to other cinema varieties; the basis of the Arthouse theatre business  residing in the cultural exception, in the search for films that can evoke emotions and trigger the desire for culture, information and creativity; “entertaining”, educating and transforming the audience; the travel companions of Arthouse theatres: festivals, critics, filmmakers; how to expand the audience for all types of film.

The Arthouse Cinema Convetion, which began last night, is the key professional rendez-vous for quality cinema, with over five hundred industry professionals participating and in which, along with previews, trailers and inputs by filmmakers and actors, the films of the coming months are screened.

Barbora Bobolova, Antonio and Marco Manetti, Riccardo Scamarcio and Jasmine Trinca will star in the Filmmakers’ Convention scheduledto take place in the foyer of theTeatro Sociale at 18.30h.

In the Teatro del Bibiena during the evening event directed by Maurizio Di Rienzo, the Fice Arthouse cinema awards will be presented to Italian directors and actors from the most popular films. Among the award-winners are Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, Riccardo Scamarcio, Barbora Bobulova, Peter Greenaway, the Manetti Bros and Sydney Sibilia. The celebration in honour of those awarded will continue at the National Archaeological Museum.
