This is therefore the second consecutive year that a Belgian movie takes home the prestigious prize, since the trash and iconoclastic comedy by Vincent Lannoo, In the Name of the Son [+see also:

, won the award last year.

The Méliès d'Or is a prize awarded as part of the European Fantastic Films Festival Federation (EFFFF). It awards the best European fantasy or sci-fi film of the year. Each of the nine member festivals (including the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival) each year awards a Méliès d'Argent to one of the films in competition. When a work is awarded a Méliès d'Argent it is then automatically nominated for the Méliès d'Or. At the end of September, Alleluia also took home four awards at the Austin Fantastic Film Festival for best film, best director, best actor and best actress.

Making its world premiere at the Directors' Fortnight last May, Alleluia is cleaning out festivals all over the world. It will be shown for the first time in Belgium at the International Francophone Film Festival in Namur on 8 October. Among its upcoming destinations are: the New Cinema Festival in Montreal, the International Film Festival in Busan and the AFI-Fest in Los Angeles. In addition, cinema releases are planned in the coming weeks in the US (Music Box Distribution), France (Carlotta) and Belgium (O’Brother).
