, the directorial debut by Benjamin Weill, who cut his teeth as an editor (including on all of Kim Chapiron’s and Fred Cavayé’s films). The cast includes young actors Devi Couzigou, Victor Leblond, Mathis Crusson, Sullivan Loyez and Liah O'prey, backed up by seasoned stars such as Pierre-François Martin-Laval, Isabelle Nanty and Arnaud Dulery.

Written by the director together with Camille Fontaine (nominated for the César Award for Best Adaptation in 2008 for Coco Before Chanel [+see also:

), the story is set in a small village on the west coast of Brittany, where Copkiller, Delete, King Kong and FléO are imposing their style (gold chains, baseball caps and baggy trousers) and genuinely think they are real American rappers. But in one of their English lessons, Sylvain, the new boy, provokes and publically humiliates them. The four inseparable buddies, nothing more than clumsy and spotty teenagers, won’t let anybody push them around. The West Coast “gangstas” plan to crash Sylvain’s party, to which he has invited the whole school, and will get their revenge. Armed with Copkiller’s dad’s service weapon, this expedition will be a chance for each of them to assert themselves and will take them much further than they ever dreamed of…

Produced by Eric Jehelmann and Philippe Rousselet for Jerico, West Coast is benefitting from co-productions by France 2 Cinéma and Mars Films (which will handle distribution in French theatres), as well as a pre-purchase by Canal+. The shoot, which is scheduled to wrap on 7 November, will take place entirely in Brittany, primarily in Auray and Carnac.

Jerico recently produced La famille Bélier by Eric Lartigau (read the news), which will be distributed in French cinemas on 17 December by Mars and apparently caused many a tear to be shed during its first few screenings to exhibitors.
